Il mormorio del fosso
Fra duplici filari di alti pioppi
lento mormora e scende il grande fosso
scivola fra un mulinello e poi un dosso
tra un tramestio di gorghi e di raddoppi.
Un ponte in lontananza fra le sponde
il vecchio con un bimbo per la mano
dal sole si riparan fra le fronde
rintocca la campana da lontano.
La rana e la cicala in gran concerto
col grillo e la civetta a far corona
miracolo di pace e vera icona
estratto di un teatro a cielo aperto.
Va bene lo confesso è una bugia
è storia di cent’ anni: a casa mia.

The murmur of the ditch 
Between double rows of tall poplars
slow murmurs and the great ditch
descends
slips between a whirlpool
and then a bump
amidst a bustle
of whirlpools and doublings.
A bridge in the distance between the banks
the old man with a child by the hand
they shelter
from the sun among the fronds
toll the bell from afar.
The frog and the cicada in concert
with the cricket
and the owl as a crown
miracle of peace and true
icon

Okay I confess it's a lie
it is a hundred years of history: at my house.
